Counting of votes is underway for the assembly elections in Haryana – where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eyeing a straight third term – and Jammu and Kashmir, which voted in an assembly election after 10 years. In dqz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Haryana, the latest trends show that the BJP is leading in 48 of the 90 assembly seats, while the Congress is ahead in 34. Various exit polls have predicted a clear majority for the msr" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Congress in the state.
In xgz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP and the National Conference (NC) have so far won one seat each. According to available leads, the alliance of the Congress and the NC is currently leading in 50 seats, more than the majority mark (46) in the 90-member assembly. The BJP, on the other hand, is ahead in 27, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is leading in two.
Jammu and Kashmir voted in its first assembly elections since 2014, first as a Union Territory and first after the removal of Article 370, which gave the erstwhile state special status. Other parties that can play a key role in J&K, where exit polls have predicted a hung house, are the People’s Conference, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party and the Apni Party.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is contesting from the Ladwa seat in Kurukshetra, is leading by a margin of 10,562 votes over his Congress rival and sitting MLA Mewa Singh.
Congress has now complained to the Election Commission on the Haryana assembly results, alleging an “unexplained slowdown” in updating of trends on its website.
“Slowdown in updating results allows bad faith actors to spin narratives that undermine process,” Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said in a letter to the EC.

Live Election Results: BJP, NC win one seat each in Jammu and Kashmir
The BJP and the National Conference have won one seat each in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. While BJP’s Darshan Kumar won by over 16,000 votes from Basohli against Congress’ Choudhary Lal Singh, NC’s Nazir Ahmad Khan won by a margin of 1,132 votes from Gurez (ST).
Congress’ Jairam Ramesh has alleged that there was a slowing down in uploading trends for the Haryana assembly polls on the Election Commission website.
In a post on X, he said, “Like the Lok Sabha elections, in Haryana we are again witnessing slowing down of uploading up-to-date trends on the ECI website.”
“Is the BJP trying to build pressure on administration by sharing outdated and misleading trends @ECISVEEP?” Mr Ramesh said.
He later said he will lodge a complaint.

Responding to Mr Ramesh, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that Congress has accepted its defeat.
“If Jairam Ramesh has already started saying this and pointing fingers at Election Commission, then we should understand that they have accepted their defeat… as per the trends going on, I feel that we are moving towards an important victory and Congress has started taking precautionary measures for their future defeat,” he told ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address BJP workers at the party’s headquarters in Delhi. The BJP is currently eyeing a record third straight term in Haryana.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress president Vikar Rasool Wani is currently behind NC candidate Sajad Saheen in the Banihal assembly segment. While Mr Wani has got 15,010 votes, Mr Saheen has got 24,417 votes.
J&K Election Results: People Conference’s chief Sajad Gani Lone leading from Handwara
J&K People Conference president Sajad Gani Lone is now leading from the Handwara constituency by a margin of 1,175 votes after six rounds of counting. He, however, is trailing by nearly 13,000 votes in Kupwara, the second assembly seat from where he contested the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir elections.
Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala is currently trailing Congress’ Bharat Singh Beniwal by a margin of 6,346 votes, the latest trends showed.
His son and INLD candidate Arjun Chautala is leading from the Rania seat over his grand uncle and Independent candidate Ranjit Chautala by 6,161 votes.
Live Election Result: AAP yet to get off the mark in Haryana
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to get off the mark in Haryana. The party led by former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had contested 89 of Haryana’s 90 seats.
Speaking on the assembly election result trends, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said it is a “genuine surprise” to see the BJP leading in Haryana.
“We have to wait and see…We shouldn’t make a premature conclusion right now…At the moment, they (BJP) seem to be leading in a majority of the seats (in Haryana) which is a genuine surprise. Certainly, the whole exit poll industry must be in a deep disgrace…Honestly, let us wait for the final results…My own feeling is that the signs in Haryana are not what we were expecting and are better than what INDIA bloc was expecting in Jammu and Kashmir,” he told reporters.

Election Results 2024 LIVE: J&K Congress chief leads in Central Shalteng
J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra is now leading from the Central Shalteng assembly constituency by a margin of 8,758 votes, after six rounds of counting.
PDP leader Iltija Mufti, who is currently trailing by more than 4,300 votes against NC’s Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the Srigufwara-Bijbehara assembly constituency, has said that she accepts the “verdict of the people”.
Taking to her official X account, Ms Mufti, the daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, said, “The love and affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me. Gratitude to my PDP workers who worked so hard throughout this campaign.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister and Congress leader Tara Chand, who has so far polled 2,761 votes in the Chhamb seat, is far behind Independent candidate Satesh Sharma, who has got 17,800 votes.
Rajeev Sharma, the BJP candidate from the seat, has got 13,137 votes.

After leading in initial rounds of counting, Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat is now trailing from the Julana assembly seat in Haryana’s Jind district.
The wrestler is trailing by 3,641 votes to BJP’s Yogesh Kumar, who has so far received 19,218 votes.
After initially surging ahead in Haryana, the Congress has now fallen behind BJP. As per the latest trends, the BJP is leading in 46 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 37.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to start.
Early rounds of counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir point to good news for the Congress and its ally National Conference.
While the NC is currently leading in 39 seats, the COngress is ahead in eight. The BJP, on the other hand, is leading in 28 seats, while its former ally PDP is ahead in four.

Congress’ Bhupinder Singh Hooda has continued his lead over his nearest rival, BJP’s Manju, in flk">Haryana’s Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. He is now ahead by 22,182 votes after 4/17 rounds of counting, as per the data available on the EC website.
JJP leader Dushyant Chautala is trailing from the Uchana Kalan assembly seat in Haryana. According to Election Commission of India trends, Mr Chautala, a former deputy chief minister of Haryana, has polled 1,624 votes and is currently at the sixth spot.
Congress’ Brijendra Singh is leading in Uchana Kalan by a margin of 1,188 votes from his nearest rival and BJP candidate Devender Chatar Bhuj Attri.
“I am confident that Congress will win around 65 assembly seats and form the government in Haryana. In J&K, JKNC and Congress alliance will cross the majority mark and I am confident that those who are against BJP will also ally with the Congress-JKNC alliance. We are forming the government in J&K and Haryana,” Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said today.

“The Congress is going to form the government on its own in Haryana. The trends suggest we will get the majority. The real credit goes to the people of Haryana,” says Bhupinder Hooda of the Congress.
“BJP has been in power for 10 years. It is natural to have fatigue, but there was BJP’s misrule. This was a big factor. The electorate looks at their future and they know their future is Congress. Rahul Gandhi’s yatra and his there guidance as well as the overarching factor that was guidance of leadership,” says Congress MP Kumari Selja. “I am among the contenders for chief minister but the final decision is of high command.”
Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan is currently leading from the Hodal assembly seat in the state, the latest trends on the Election Commission website showed.
Mr Bhan was leading by a margin of 1,919 votes from his nearest rival and BJP’s Harinder Singh.

Congress candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat has now extended her lead to 214 from the Julana assembly seat in Haryana’s Jind district.
She has so far received 214 votes as against her nearest rival and BJP candidate Yogesh Kumar’s 3,900.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is now leading by 840 votes from the Ladwa assembly seat against his nearest rival and Congress nominee Mewa Singh. According to the Election Commission, Mr Saini has so far polled 8,182 votes.

Ahead of vote counting for Haryana polls, Congress candidate from Kaithal Aditya Surjewala said his party will win 70 seats.
“Exit polls say that we will win 60 seats (of the total 90 seats), but I say that we will win 70 seats, we will Kaithal seat too,” he told reporters.

The National Conference is open to a strategic post-poll alliance with the People’s Democratic Party to keep the BJP out of power after the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election, NC leader and ex Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has said.
“Why not…” Mr Abdullah asked reporters on Monday when asked about an alliance, “How does it matter? If we all work for the same thing… for improvement in the condition of the people of the state. We can be rivals in elections but I have no objections. I am sure Congress will not either.”
The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor’s power to nominate five members to the assembly has sparked a massive row ahead of counting of votes.
The Congress, its ally National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti’s Peoples’ Democratic Party have contended that providing such powers to the Lieutenant Governor is a subversion of the people’s mandate as it will be used to benefit the BJP.

As many as 873 candidates are vying for a seat in the 90-member house in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Election Commission officials, a three-tier security set up has been put in place at all the counting centres in Jammu and Kashmir.
A total of 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents and 101 women, are in the fray on Haryana’s 90 constituencies.
Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by the counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after 30 minutes.

Two counting centres each have been set up for the Badshahpur, Gurugram, and Pataudi assembly constituencies, while one counting centre each has been established for the remaining 87 assembly constituencies. To monitor the counting process, 90 counting observers also have been appointed by the Election Commission.
