Amid actor-politician Kangana Ranaut’s viral ‘gutter generation’ remark against Gen Z, the internet dug up an old video of the actor from a party. The video is from Kangana’s 2018’s this video where Kangana is seen having fun at a Cannes after-party.
This came after the BJP MP intensified her criticism against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das through a series of Instagram Stories. The actor questioned his claim of being a student, pointed to her own achievements by the age of 28, and described him as “totally useless and unemployed”. Her remarks followed Das’s criticism of her comments on Gen-Z and the CJP-led NEET-UG 2026 protests.
Amid her latest Instagram stories and posts directed at the protest and people leading to the same, an old video of the Tanu Weds Manu actor has emerged online. The clip is from her 2018 appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. Dressed in a black sequined dress with a blue scarf, Kangana is seen dancing, partying and enjoying herself.

The video sparked a mixed response in the comments section. While some users trolled Kangana, pointing out the contrast between her views and her carefree demeanour in the clip, others defended her right to have fun. Several users argued that there was nothing wrong with partying, as she was not hurting or abusing.
One of the users commented, “She said Girls now a days or GenZ are drug addicts, couldn’t study properly and couldn’t be a good home maker, this is what she thinks about others, so what’s wrong in mocking her over this nonsense dance clip (sic).”
At the same time, another wrote, “I personally don’t like Kangana’s mindset. She is such an extraordinary actress but it’s her mindset that is such a turn off. However, don’t demean her. Don’t stoop to her level.”
One of the Instagram user defended the actor and wrote, “So?? She is enjoying her life she is well settled apart of she is no abusing to anyone no harming anyone what’s problem in that?” Another echoed similar sentiments and wrote, “She’s dancing and enjoying herself, what’s wrong with that? She’s not abusing or cursing anyone, not harming anyone.. She’s an absolute diva.”
Kangana’s war of words began earlier this week after Das criticised the actor, claiming that even members of her own party did not take her seriously. Ranaut responded by questioning his credentials as a student, calling him “useless and unemployed” in a series of Instagram Stories while defending her achievements before entering politics.
In another social media post, Kangana’s sharp remarks about women participating in the protest also drew criticism.
She called out the “so-called westernised Indian women” and accused them of following what she described as a lifestyle that went against traditional values. She also claimed that they were not inclined towards domestic responsibilities. “I call them Generation Gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer to the system. They are not good at studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can’t even be homemakers,” she wrote.
Actors including Rakhi Sawant and Sonu Sood have also criticised Kangana’s remarks.
