Governor Arlekar, CM Vijay pay tributes to Muthulakshmi Reddy on her birth anniversary

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday paid tributes to social reformer Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy on her birth anniversary.

“Remembering Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy on her birth anniversary, a pioneering force who dedicated her life to the empowerment of women and the welfare of children. A distinguished legislator and visionary reformer, her enduring contributions laid the foundation for social justice and equality,” Lok Bhavan said in a post on X, quoting the Governor.

In a statement, Mr. Vijay said Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy dedicated her entire life to the education, rights, and advancement of women, and to the welfare of the poor and the underprivileged.

She was a pioneering social reformer who established Avvai Illam as a refuge for destitute women and children, and the Adyar Cancer Institute, which has brought hope to many cancer patients. She also played a crucial role in laying the foundation for legislation prohibiting child marriage, the Chief Minister said.
