Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda visited the native village of his longtime helper, Sagar Limbu, in Sarupothar in Assam’s Golaghat district while returning from flood relief work in the state. Hooda said he had come to Assam to help during the floods, and decided to visit after Sagar told him that his village was not far away.
Speaking to India Today NE during the visit, Hooda described the area as a very beautiful place and said the people were cheerful, warm and welcoming. Recalling that he had stayed in Nagaland’s Lukuto village the previous night, he said that after reaching Sagar’s village he felt the region was ‘really heaven on earth’. In a light-hearted remark, he added that he had now become the North East’s ‘jamai’, saying that people told him that wherever he went.
Hooda said he had never visited that side of the region before and was very glad that he chose to come. He said he was happy to meet local residents and Sagar’s family, including his uncle, and repeated that the place was truly beautiful.
During an interaction with locals and journalists, Hooda was told that the village was linked to noted sportspersons, including Olympian boxer Lovlina Borgohain and athlete Nayanmoni Saikia. He reacted with surprise on learning that they were born there. Hooda then remarked that it seemed to be a village of sportspersons and said it reminded him of Haryana, where, according to him, every village had a similar sporting culture.
The visit came after Hooda travelled to flood-hit parts of Upper Assam, including Sivasagar, where he joined relief efforts with the humanitarian organisation Global Sikh, met affected families, interacted with volunteers and distributed essential supplies. Floods have continued to affect districts including Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat and Nagaon. As he concluded his stop in Sagar Limbu’s village, Hooda thanked the community for the welcome and said they had made him feel very good.
