The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) has announced that two families have adopted five animals under its Animal Adoption Programme. To mark her birthday, V. Nishkala Nakshatra adopted a spotted deer and a star tortoise, and jointly with V. Aarick Nihal, a meerkat, for one year, contributing ₹50,000.
Separately, a family from Uttar Pradesh, impressed by the scheme during a zoo visit, adopted a red-necked wallaby for a year and a leopard for a month, contributing ₹32,000. Curator G. Mangamma said donations qualify for tax exemption under Section 80G(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
