Asia-Pacific markets reversed their early rally to trade on a mixed note. The markets in the region opened higher as a softer US Producer Price Index (PPI) reading raised hopes for no rate hike in the near term and as technology shares gained.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kosi were trading 0.7 per cent and 0.9 per cent higher, respectively. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.51 per cent.
Overnight, the S&P 500 hit a new high and settled 0.65 per cent higher at 7,799.19. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.13 per cent and 0.81 per cent higher, respectively.
Oil prices steadied in Friday’s session after the US threatened to continue its naval blockade at the Strait of Hormuz indefinitely. In the previous session, Brent crude snapped a six-session rally due to global demand concerns. The August futures were quoted at $86.84 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange, down 0.26 per cent.
The Gold and silver futures were trading 1.11 per cent and 1.49 per cent down, respectively.
