It appears to be business as usual at Prime Video. Amidst chatter of a downturn in the entertainment sector, the streaming platform on Thursday announced a slew of new shows in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, extensions to existing series, movies that will be premiered directly on the platform and acquired titles.
In a conversation with filmmaker Karan Johar – whose productions are also headed to Prime Video – Kelly Day, Vice President of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios International) said, “India is by far one of the most important markets for us anywhere around the world… It is one of our biggest Originals programmes anywhere in the world.”
Nicole Clemens, Vice President of International Originals, Amazon MGM Studios, added, “The strength of our franchises is in travelability. Indian content is core to our international success. What stands out for me is that 25% of our shows and our audience are actually coming from outside India.”
In his remarks, Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President, APAC & ANZ, Prime Video, said the platform was “supercharged” about “announcing theatrical films from Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, and then come to Prime Video post theatrical”.
Among the films that are heading to Prime Video after their theatrical run is Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Hindi horror-comedy Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla, led by Kartik Aaryan. The list includes Ravi Babu Nelakuditi’s Telugu film DQ41, a romance starring Dulquer Salmaan and Pooja Hegde, and VVAN – Force of the Forrest, a Hindi supernatural thriller directed by Deepak Mishra and starring Sidharth Malhotra, Tamannah Bhatia, Maniesh Paul, Sunil Grover, Shweta Tiwari and Anup Soni.
Also headed to Prime after being released in theatres are Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo, the Telugu-language Adivi Sesh starrers Dacoit – Oka Prema Katha (co-starring Mrunal Thakur) and the Goodachari sequel G2 (co-starring Emraan Hashmi and Wamiqa Gabbi).
There will be fresh seasons for Dahaad, led by Sonakshi Sinha, Farzi, starring Shahid Kapoor, and the Ananya Panday-headlined Call Me Bae.
Farzi season 2, steered by Raj & DK, sees Shahid Kapoor make his comeback as the art forger. Also starring Vijay Sethupathi, Bhuvan Arora, Kay Kay Menon, Zakir Hussain, Raashi Khanna and Kubbra S, the show is about “a revenge-obsessed Sunny” who “descends further into darkness” and “Michael, cut off from the system but unable to walk away, continues his war on counterfeiting”.
In Dahaad season 2, directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi, Sonakshi Sinha’s sub-inspector Anjali Meghwal goes after another serial killer. Gulshan Devaiah, Vineet Kumar Singh, Sikandar Kher, Aisha Ahmed, Jyoti Kapoor and Vidhaan Sharma are also in the cast.
Among the returning shows are Dupahiya, Sapne vs Everyone, Gram Chikitsalay and Sandeep Bhaiya. The popular series Panchayat will be back for a fifth round.
In the new Inspector Rishi chapter, Naveen Chandra’s police officer looks into abductions that appear to have a supernatural connection.
Created and directed by Nandhini JS, the Tamil show also stars Sunaina, Kuraishi, Malini Jeevarathnam, Kishore Kumar G, Anupama Kumar, Gaby, Ramesh Thilak and Deepika Venkatachalam.
Vadhandhi is back for a second round. A police inspector on a punishment posting tries to save a man who has been wrongly convicted.
Created, directed and written by Andrew Louis, the Tamil show stars M Sasikumar, Yashwanth, Anagha Maruthora, Aparna Das, Vivek Prasanna, Revathy Sharma and Arjun Nandhakumar.
NEW SERIES
Storm Hrithik Roshan’s HRX Films has produced the Hindi series Storm, created and directed by Ajitpal Singh, Francois Lunel and Swati Das have written the show alongside Singh.
The synopsis: “Five women – each nursing wounds, dreams, and deadly secrets – are drawn into a web of deception that threatens to crush them or set them free when a sustainable housing project unravels into a deadly scam.”
The cast includes Parvathy Thiruvothu, Saba Azad, Alaya F, Srishti Shrivastava, Rrama Sharma Suvinder Pal Vicky, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajit Kapur, Ashok Pathak, Gautam Rode, Priyanka Setia and Ranjan Raj.
Matka King Sairat director Nagraj Manjule makes his debut with a Hindi show set in 1960s Mumbai, about “an enterprising cotton trader who craves legitimacy and respect, starts a new gambling game dubbed ‘matka’ that takes the city by storm and democratizes a terrain previously reserved for the rich and elite”.
Created and written by Manjule and Abhay Koranne, the show stars Vijay Varma, Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadavat and Gulshan Grover.
Welcome to Khoya Mahal Konkona Sensharma and Jaydeep Sarkar direct a Hindi series about aristocratic siblings who are forced to take over the family-run heritage hotel, unaware of its secrets. Written by Sensharma, Sarkar, Hussain Haidry and Genesia Alves, the show stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Barun Sobti, Aparna Sen, Harish Khanna, Luca Adhikari and Dhruv Sehgal.
Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya A headmaster tries to improve a run-down school, with comedic results. Created by Sameer Saxena and Biswapati Sarkar and directed by Himank Gaur, the Hindi series stars Kay Kay Menon, Naveen Kasturia, Prasanna Bisht, Abhimanyu Singh, Archana Puran Singh and Deven Bhojani.
Nazdeekiyan The Hindi show’s synopsis: “When Seher and Abhay begin working together, fate entwines their spouses Ved and Meera into an all-consuming relationship. Caught between duty and desire, they must choose whether true happiness is worth the heartbreak of those they care about most.”
Directed by Ruchir Arun and written by Priyanka Bannerjee, Prateek Payodi, Abhinandan Sridhar and Heem Verma, the Hindi show stars Paresh Pahuja, Aakanksha Singh, Taaha Shah Badusha and Nikita Dutta.
Exam In the Tamil series, a woman with a past tries to expose a paper leak scam. Written and directed by A Sarkunam, the show stars Dushara Vijayan, Aditi Balan, Abbas and Vasundhara Kashyap.
Tax Department Story The synopsis: “A newly minted Revenue Services officer takes on the most powerful white-collar criminal in Agra, only to realize that winning is taxable.”
Created by Prashant Raj and Samyak Singh, the Hindi show is directed by Saurabh Bhave. The cast includes Ravi Kishan, Aditya Rawal, Ashvini Bhave, Rajesh Kumar, Barkha Singh, Sarika Singh, Prateik Pachori and Kaveri Seth.
College Fest The synopsis: “At a Gen-Z college fest, a mysterious infection transforms students into zombies, forcing a group of college students to confront real-world consequences, and literal ‘brain rot’ before their campus – and generation – collapses.”
Vaibhav Bandhoo directs a Hindi script by Arunabh Kumar, with Ashish Chanchlani in the cast.
Isakapatnam The synopsis of the Telugu series: “Set in the 1990s, in the ruthless port town of Isakapatnam, three forces collide – a woman driven by justice, a henchman torn by loyalty, and a common man hungry for revenge – each closing in on the empire built by the port’s most powerful man, Naidu.”
Garry BH directs a story by Prashant Ragathi. The cast includes Aishwarya Rajesh, Samuthirakani, Sunil, Naresh Agastya, Merin Philip, Sudhakar Komakula, Rajeev Kanakala, Mime Gopi, Rohini and Raja Chembolu.
Gully A high-stakes neighbourhood cricket match brings together the players, criminals and the police. Praveen Sattaru’s Telugu series, written by Sashi Sudigala, stars Sudheer Babu, JD Chakravarthy, Hansika, Shraddha Srinath, Adarsh Balakrishna, Nandagopal, Chaitu Jonnalagadda and Prince.
Dono Mile Iss Tarah In love as teenagers, Laila and Aarav try to rekindle their romance as adults. The Hindi series directed by Harsh Dedhia and written by Riya Poojary, Rohan Thakkar and Zainab Sapatwala stars Zaeden and Katyani Mehra.
Anarth The Hindi series created by Ananya Banerjee and directed by Banerjee and Gaurav Chawala stars Gulshan Devaiah, Kalki Koechlin, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Preeti Panighahi, Sumedh Mudgalkar, Harshita Gaur and Barkha Bisht. The synopsis: “A motherless child and a childless mother are forced to face their grief when a sinister presence called Boba threatens to silence them forever.”
Rafoo Maniesh Paul and Angira Dhar star in a Hindi show about a struggling singer who shares a flat with his ex-mother-in-that is located below the one occupied by his ex-wife and her boyfriend. Directed by Shashank Bali and written by Bali, Raghuvir Shekhawat, Sanjay Kohli, Zeenat Lakhani and Vihaan Kohli.
The Revolutionaries Nikkhil Advani’s series is adapted from Sanjeev Sanyal’s book The Revolutionaries. The synopsis: “Born in the shadow of 1857’s failure, four young bloods driven by a mad passion for justice, liberty and freedom, set out to challenge the British Raj, with guns in their hands and rebellion in their hearts, they awaken a sleeping nation, and set out to do the unthinkable.”
Written by Akshita Wadhwana, Rutvi Mehta and Shobit Narang, the Hindi show stars Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta, Gurfateh Pirzada and Jason Shah.
Phoolan Delhi Crime and Poacher director Richie Mehta’s new Hindi series revisits 48 hours in the life of Phoolan Devi, the bandit from Chambal.
Carnaame – Badla Gear Palti Kismat Vinay Waikul has created and directed the crime series Carnaame. Written by Sambit Mishra, Saurabh Sawant, the Hindi show follows four friends who steal cars to pay off their loans. Their latest job gets them into serious trouble. Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saaquib Nazar, Nazrul Ayubi, Prayrak Mehta, Sikander Kher and Sai Tamhankar are in the cast.
Guvvala Cheruvu Ghat The synopsis: “In a feudal South Indian town ruled by bloodlines and ancestral bargains, a hidden heir quietly manipulates friendship, love, loyalty, and legacy to reclaim his stolen identity – only to realise that once chaos is unleashed, no one controls where it ends.”
The Telugu series created by Bharath Kamma and Prasankar and directed by Bharath Kamma stars Kiran Abbavaram, Thiruveer, Samyuktha Menon, Tejaswi Rao, Siddique, Aadukalam Naren, Vikas Darshan, Maharshi Vidhya and Vinod Kishan.
Lukkhe The Hindi crime series created by Agrim Joshi and Debojit Das Purkayastha and directed by Himank Gaur stars Raashi Khanna, King, Palak Tiwari, Lakshvir Saran, Shivankit Parihar, Nakul Roshan Sachdev and Kritika Bhardwaj.
The synopsis: “A young sportsman infiltrates the wild and dangerous world of Punjab’s rap music to investigate a drug syndicate, only to find himself torn between love, family, guilt and brotherhood.”
Raakh The synopsis: “When two teenagers vanish, a close-knit family is shattered and the city is left on edge. Determined to uncover the truth, a relentless officer leads a nationwide manhunt that pulls him deep into a world of violence and human depravity.”
Prosit Roy has directed the Hindi series written and co-directed by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket. Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre, Aamir Bashir, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Rakesh Bedi are in the cast.
Vansh – The Kalyug Warriors The Hindi series based on the comics is about a college student who discovers that he carries the bloodline of an immortal. Written by Alok Sharma and Arunabh Kumar, the show’s visual design is by Saumin Suresh Patel.
The Pyramid Scheme The ambitious Goldy wants to get rich quick through a pyramid marketing business, but chaos ensues.
Directed by Ashish R Shukla and Shreyansh Pandey and written by Akshendra Mishra, the Hindi series stars Paramvir Cheema, Ranvir Shorey, Sushant Singh, Manoj Srivastav, Annjan Srivastav, Shekhar Suman, Ashish Raghav, Alfiya Jafri, Akhilendra Mishra, Smita Bansal and Indresh Malik.
Teen Kauwe The synopsis: “An ex-secret agent, believed to be a mole and thought dead for seven years, must return to find the traitor who framed him, while his own agency is trying to terminate him.”
Created by Abbas Tyrewala, the Hindi show counts Priyanka Ghose as co-creator and director. Starring Bobby Deol, Sidhant Gupta, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pavail Gulati, Ronit Roy, Isha Talwar, Chandni Bainz and Faisal Malik.
Jagamae Sangeetham The Telugu series is set in Vaikuntapuram. The synopsis: A disciplined heir to a musical throne and a fame-weary singer strike a forbidden chord. To protect a century of heritage, they must navigate a landscape of family secrets, masked identities, and the heavy price of finding their own voices.”
Palnati Surya Pratap’s show, written by Vangala Surya Teja, stars Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Srikanth Meka, Akshay Lagusani, Sushmita Shetty, Sijju Menon, Shafi and Suman.

Mirzapur: The Movie The hugely popular series gets a movie version. The Hindi film, directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sonal Chauhan, Pramod Pathak, Anangsha Biswas, Shubhrajyoti Barat and Prashansa Sharma.
Mess Rajesh A Krishnan (Lootcase, Crew) directs a screenplay by Broken Lizard comedy troupe member Paul Soter. The Hindi movie is about thieves who realise that they have targetted the wrong house. The cast includes Pratik Gandhi, Ranvir Shorey, Gajraj Rao and Anurag Thakur.
Don’t Be Shy This Alia Bhatt co-production, starring newcomers, is written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji. The Hindi film follows Shyamili Das, a 20-year-old woman whose perfect life takes an unpredictable turn.
Sundar Poonam The synopsis: “On their idyllic honeymoon in Kashmir, a newlywed couple goes missing, unravelling a chilling truth about Poonam, the bride, whose obsessive love story, twisted past and shocking secrets pull everyone around her into a deadly spiral.”
Pulkit’s Hindi movie, written by him and Jyotsana Nath, stars Sanya Malhotra and Aditya Rawal.
VIBE Kunal Kemmu writes, directs and stars in a comedy about a slacker and his best friend who get involved with a terrorist plot. The Hindi movie also stars Preity G Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Vanshika Dhir.
Nayyi Navelli The synopsis: “A picture-perfect bride transforms a chaotic Meerut household into a slice of heaven…until her brother-in-law suspects that things may not be as perfect as they seem.” Yami Gautam Dhar leads the Hindi movie directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma, Divy Nidhi.
System Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari directs a Hindi film starring Sonakshi Sinha, Jyotika and Ashutosh Gowariker. The synopsis: “When Neha Rajvansh, a privileged public prosecutor, meets Sarika Rawat, a courtroom stenographer from a humble background, their lives are thrown into upheaval where power defines truth, blurring the system and raising a question of what justice truly means to them.” The screenplay is by Harman Baweja and Arun Sukumar.
Kuku Ki Kundli Sharan Sharma’s Hindi film, written by Mohak Aneja, Kunal Aneja, stars Bhuvan Bam, Wamiqa Gabbi, Manoj Pahwa, Geeta Agrawal, Suvinder Pal and Sapna Sand.

Aditya Nimbalkar’s Hindi movie, written by Rohan Narula, Nimbalkar and Akshat Ghildial, stars Rajkumar Rao and Keerthy Suresh.
ASI Babita Reporting! A lowly cop stumbles upon murder and family secrets while visiting her in-laws’ home for the first time. Ambiecka Pandit’s Hindi film, written by Amita Vyas, stars Nimisha Sajayan, Anshumaan Pushkar and Barun Sobti.
Dilkashi Malayalam maverick Lijo Jose Pellissery directs, and co-writes with Karan Vyas, the Hindi film Dilkashi. The synopsis: “United by passion, torn apart by volatility and an obsessive third lover, Rose and Atharva reunite in a seductive game of love, betrayal, fantasy, and dangerously irreversible second chances.”
The movie stars Munjya star Abhay Verma, Zahan Kapoor and a new actress.
