The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is set to add at least 45 more authorised parking sites across several zones next month in a move aimed at easing parking pressure and reducing roadside congestion in the city.
With this addition, the total number of parking locations operated by the civic body is expected to rise to around 500. Officials said tenders for the new parking facilities are likely to be floated next month.
The new sites have been identified in various parts of Delhi, including the Central, South, Karol Bagh and West zones, among others. At present, the MCD manages around 450 parking sites with a combined capacity of nearly 90,000 vehicles, including four-wheelers, two-wheelers, buses and trucks, according to officials.
Once the newly identified sites become operational, the overall parking capacity under the civic body is expected to increase to nearly 95,000 vehicles. The move is part of the MCD’s expansion of authorised parking facilities to create more organised parking space and address congestion caused by roadside parking.
The MCD had earlier identified 38 new parking sites with a combined capacity of more than 6,100 vehicles, taking the number of authorised parking locations under its jurisdiction to 445. Officials said the civic body is continuing to identify more locations for parking facilities, especially in areas with high demand. The latest sites have been identified across multiple zones, though details of their individual locations and capacities are yet to be finalised.
Overall, the civic body plans to expand its authorised parking network by adding at least 45 more sites next month, taking the total close to 500 and increasing capacity to nearly 95,000 vehicles.
